Prairie Day Emphasizes Conservation of Native Species
Prairie Day is an annual event sponsored by the Dallas Master Naturalists, held on the grounds of the Bath House at beautiful White Rock Lake in Dallas, Texas. It is an invitation to the public to discover native plants and wildlife, including species found in the city of Dallas. This year’s event was held on May 6, a gorgeous spring day.
Tour are given by wildlife experts showing the remnants of our native prairie ecosystem. Everything from sustainable plants to native prairie grasses are exhibited, and native plant seedlings are made available to visitors, in hopes that these plants will be propagated throughout the area.
Our own native Dallas species of orchid was on display through the medium of “Orchidgami“, a project of the North American Orchid Conservation Center, home-based at the Smithsonian.
