“Vine-To-Table” Fundraiser for the BRIT
Trudy and I attended our first BRIT (Botanical Research Institute of Texas) fundraiser event on April 11, 2018. It was a spectacular success as it combined their recognition of a sustainable vineyard as well as showcasing local chefs in the Fort Worth area.
The event was held outdoors on the BRIT grounds, and the weather-gods must have been in an especially good mood that day.
Having just gone through a cold and rainy spell (somewhat unusual here in Texas in April), the day of the event was as perfect as could be — sunny and mild.
We donated an orchid print, orchid notecards and an orchid mug to be used as a set in the silent auction. Proceeds from all silent auction items went to support the important work the BRIT does as a local focus for botanical research for Texas. There were many, many wonderful donated items in the silent auction, and people were more than happy to bid, all the way through the social hour and dinner, at the end of which time the winners were announced.
Social hour and browsing took place during late afternoon, then during the time we had our dinner we enjoyed a beautiful twilight and sunset. A peek back showed us the BRIT grounds at night, with the party lights still on.
A couple of little serendipities:
On the way to Fort Worth we noticed that the Texas Bluebonnets (brought to national attention by Lady Bird Johnson) were finally in bloom. That is always the signal that spring has officially arrived in Texas.
Also, the day of the event happened to be Trudy’s birthday; we got to celebrate in a beautiful setting meeting wonderful new friends, enjoyed a delicious meal (with great wine!), and had the honor of helping a worthy institutions meet some important goals.
All in all, it was a very special event.
