Ready for the Fort Worth Orchid Show where my focus will be conservation
Tomorrow and Sunday will be doing something I love to do — attend an orchid show. This one is in Fort Worth at the Botanical Gardens.
I always enter one or more recent paintings for the judging. Most of the shows have a category for original art depicting orchids. This year I’m entering three paintings.
The most important reason I come to shows, however, is to raise money for orchid habitat conservation. I do that in three ways:
- sale of limited edition watercolor prints (the ones shown in the “Gallery” section of this site)
- sale of note cards bearing images of many of my paintings
- sale of tickets to a drawing where the first prize is a limited edition print
Because 100% per cent of the money goes to conservation, rather than to me personally, it is not hard to meet people and try to sell my work. Besides, orchid folks are really nice, and I always learn all kinds of good things by talking to them.
I’m looking forward to a great weekend here in Fort Worth.
