Enthusiasm for Orchid Conservation Blossoms at Galveston Bay Orchid Society Show
How gratifying to participate in an orchid show for which the society has spent months in planning every detail to ensure a successful show. The enthusiasm and support shown for preserving natural habitats, where orchids can grow and thrive, is both gratifying and encouraging.
Event co-chairs for the Galveston Bay Orchid Society Show, Joyce McMillan and Katherine Brown, along with their excellent committee chairs, planned every detail to perfection. They selected a beautiful venue at the Hilton Hotel (Houston NASA Clear Lake). Everything was totally convenient, with the meeting room right next to the showroom, the banquet facility on the same floor, and a well-stocked hospitality suite.
The display room had a theme of “Symphony of Orchids”, with a number of displays including actual musical instruments.
Many visitors came to enjoy the show, and they found lots of beautiful orchids, and orchid-related art, to purchase. By the time it was over, the showroom was nearly empty of vendor merchandise. There is no doubt about it, the Galveston Bay show was a huge success!
A personal highlight for us was the interests that visitors showed in my orchid watercolors, as well as the notecards, mugs and other orchid-related items created by Trudy. Also, the wonderful array of Orchid-gami created by the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center was a big hit. Sales from all these items Supports preservation and protection of wildlife habitat. See the full collection of available Orchid-gami here.
And finally, the environmental display Trudy and I created, featuring two nature preserves in Texas, won an award. It is so gratifying when visitors show interest and support for taking care of our planet.
