2018 Dr Delphinium Open House – Art for Conservation
Every year I participate in the annual Open House at Dr Delphinium in Richardson, Texas. I have a number of my paintings on permanent display in the store. They sell my limited edition prints and orchid notecards, with my share of the proceeds devoted to the four conservation organizations I support.
For the past three years during the Open House I have set up a little art studio back in the greenhouse, and I begin a new painting, usually corralling one of the store’s beautiful orchids as my “model”. This year I worked on a white phaleanopsis. Sneak preview in the slide show below.
Because they fit so well in a garden setting, I also have two of my mother’s sculptures on permanent display at Dr Delphinium’s. For the Open House I moved them to my “studio” area. In the slide show below, you can see “Garden Girl” and “Rottweiler” on the table with the display about the Smithsonian’s conservation project in Palau.
And back where I sat, I had “April”, a life-size little girl holding a flower pot. Because it is hard to see her in the photo from the event, I have included a photo of “April” from another setting. You can see more of mom’s work in the memorial web site we created for her.
I hope you enjoy seeing the photos from the Open House.
